Why Dopamine Is A Problem For Biohackers

One thing that is important is that dopamine tends to be an issue for biohackers. We tend to all live very dopaminergic lives. Wether it be because of our drug choices, IE androgens stimulants or because we are just naturally higher performing people seeking more.

While dopamine is not an issue by default it can be problematic if over done. Highly dopaminergic states can make you more irrational and manic, and potential lead to a concept known as excitotoxicity.

Being constantly dopaminergic can also lead to you falling into something known as anhedonia. Which by the way is a diagnosable illness so be very careful with self diagnosing but it of courser should be noted that the symptoms are similar in that the things that used to make you happy no longer do.

How to Know if Your Dopamine System is Broken

Here are a few common symptoms we see with dopamine systems that may be operating a bit sub-optimally. Again this is not a diagnosis but more so a starting point for you.

Be honest in your self assessment with yourself. If you have been abusing stimulants and living a highly dopaminergic life for the past few weeks then more then likely you are going to be having issues like the ones below and it may be time to correct those issues.

1. Lack of Motivation or Drive

  • You struggle to start or finish tasks, even ones you used to enjoy.

  • You often procrastinate or feel indifferent toward goals.

  • This is sometimes described as “emotional flatness” or “apathy.”

2. Anhedonia (Inability to Feel Pleasure)

  • Things that used to bring you joy (music, food, sex, hobbies) now feel dull or meaningless.

  • This is a key sign of dopamine-related dysfunction, especially in the mesolimbic pathway.

3. Low Energy and Physical Fatigue

  • You feel tired even after sleeping well.

  • No amount of caffeine seems to make you feel “normal.”

4. Impulsivity or Addiction

  • Constantly seeking short-term highs (e.g., scrolling, porn, junk food, drugs, shopping).

  • Dopamine dysfunction isn’t always about “too little”—it can be about dysregulated reward sensitivity.

  • You may chase stimulation because your brain isn’t responding normally to smaller, healthier rewards.

5. Poor Working Memory and Focus

  • Trouble concentrating, organizing tasks, or remembering details.

  • Dopamine in the prefrontal cortex helps regulate attention and cognitive control.

  • ADHD is closely tied to dysfunctional dopamine signaling.

6. Restless or Depressive Mood States

  • You feel either chronically restless or emotionally dull.

  • These mood states often cycle or coexist in people with dopamine dysregulation.

7. Increased Risk-Taking or Lack of Reward Prediction

  • You take more reckless or erratic actions to feel something.

  • You can’t accurately gauge what will feel rewarding until it’s too late or underwhelming.

Tip #1 Dopamine Fasting

Here is where are protocol starts. Now many people ask me how long they should do this protocol for. It depends on the compound but I think 4-6 weeks is a good amount of time. Please with the supplements do your research first before just blindly stacking them all together at a high dosage.

With Dopamine Fasting though this is where all protocols should start in my opinion as it does not revolve using any sort of supplements. Now what is dopamine fasting? It takes on many different forms but essentially it is cutting out highly dopaminergic activity from your life like music, tv, youtube, etc and making your life as boring as possible for 4-6 weeks. There to me is no perfect way to do this. You know yourself well enough to know what activities illicit the highest dopaminergic response and which ones do not.

Now in this protocol it is important to note that certain things that may give you dopamine like seeing your family, significant other, or exercising should not be cut out.

I would also advise that during this time you drop your stimulants as low as possible. If possible titrate them down as far as possible even potentially getting off them all together.

Tip #2 Dopamine Antagonism with L-THP

L-THP is one of my favorite tools as it is a Dopamine antagonist. Dopamine Antagonism is a fantastic way to up regulate the dopamine system.

Now when it comes to dosing this I would use 25-50mg about 45 minutes before bed. I have noticed that this does onset very fast, and so after you take it be prepared to sleep. I have seen people going up to 100mg, but most people do not need this high of a dosage as this supplement tends to be very effective. My personal dosage is 50mg pre bed.

It also serves as a powerful sleep aid, so I would really avoid using it in the morning. I think this for alot of people a better option then something like Seroquel.

Tip #3 9-ME-BC

The next compound we have in our protocol is really a no brainer. This is one of my favorite compounds to take for my dopamine system.

Now for this I would keep the cycle to around 2-4 weeks. For my personally a 21 day course of this is good with the first half of the cycle me dosing this at 15mg before titrating up to 30mg for the final half. If you can stand the taste the best way to take it is as a sublingual. Be careful of sun exposure when using this as well!

I recommend taking it in the morning as it can be quite stimulatory.

9-ME-BC is an MAOI, and has been shown to up regulate and repair dopaminergic neurons in the brain. It really is a wonder drug for this situation.

Tip #4 Cerebrolysin (Raise Neurogenesis)

First lets discuss how Neurogenesis and Neuroplasticity MAY contribute to helping fix your dopamine problems.

1. Dopaminergic Circuits Can Be Rewired

  • Dopamine is produced in areas like the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and substantia nigra, but its effects are felt across several brain regions (like the prefrontal cortex and nucleus accumbens).

  • If your reward system has been blunted or hijacked (e.g., by addiction, depression, overuse of stimulants), neuroplasticity allows your brain to retrain how it responds to healthier forms of stimulation.

  • Without plasticity, the brain stays stuck in maladaptive loops—chasing cheap dopamine or failing to respond to natural rewards.

 2. Neurogenesis Supports Mood, Motivation, and Flexibility

  • Most adult neurogenesis occurs in the hippocampus, a region deeply involved in emotion regulation, learning, and stress resilience.

  • Chronic stress and low dopamine go hand-in-hand—boosting neurogenesis helps reverse the effects of cortisol and enhance emotional adaptability.

  • This matters because dopamine is not just about pleasure—it’s about motivation, future prediction, and hope. A more plastic brain is more optimistic and driven.

 3. You Can Relearn Reward

  • If your dopamine system is damaged (from drug use, trauma, or depression), your brain may no longer find healthy things rewarding.

  • Neuroplasticity enables you to rebuild sensitivity to small, positive experiences (e.g., exercise, social bonding, achievement).

  • This is why habit-based rewiring (like behavioral activation or dopamine fasting) works—it’s not just about willpower, but retraining the brain.

 4. Dopamine Neurons Themselves May Regrow or Reconnect

  • Some preclinical studies suggest that boosting BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) and NGF (Nerve Growth Factor) may support repair of dopaminergic neurons.

  • These growth factors are heavily involved in both neurogenesis and plasticity.

  • Long-term potentiation (LTP)—a measure of how strongly neurons communicate—is influenced by dopamine signaling itself, meaning the better your plasticity, the better your dopamine learning loops.

 5. Plasticity Enables Better Behavioral Feedback Loops

  • A plastic brain is more adaptive—it can learn what works and what doesn’t, reinforcing beneficial behaviors.

  • This helps avoid dopamine burnout (where all stimuli feel flat) and builds long-term resilience.

Now how you achieve this? This is up to you. Personally one of the best tools for this specific situation is cerebrolysin. I would follow the following course of cerebrolysin.

10-15 MLs for 7 days

Followed by a maintenance dose of 5-10mls 1-2 times per week for the remainder of the 4-6 week dopamine repair protocol.

Tip #5 Bromantane

PLEASE NOTE IN THE VIDEO I MISSPOKE AND SAID IT WORKED THROUGH DAT WHICH WAS AN ERROR THIS IS NOT RELEVANT TO IT’S MECHANISM OF ACTION.

Source: Buy Bromantane Here code: biohack

If 9-ME-BC is my favorite for Bromantane comes in at a strong number two. Bromantane is able to do two key things within the brain.

  1. It increases the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase and aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase which are both key players for proper dopamine production. This pathway allows for an increase in dopamine without the typical crash that is present with stimulant usage.
  2. Inhibits Certain Inflammatory Inflammatory Cytokines
  3. There is still some debate onto how Bromantane exerts its anxiolytic effects

Bromantane provides a very nice anxiolytic and energizing effect in its mechanism of action allowing for a great experience. It will be very important in this protocol in making sure you do not feel totally terrible during this experience.

For me I like 50-100mg during the day

Tip #6 Neuroinflamation Modulation

Source: Buy Glutathione Here code: biohack

Now Neuroinflamation is not something that maybe directly contributes to your brain being messed up but I have found that when Neuroinflammation is high it can be problematic for correcting any sort of cognitive issue.

Two supplements I find that will be very helpful in this protocol is J-147 which can be used at 10mg per day, and Glutathione at 300mg 2-3 times per week.

Tip #7 Agolmelatine

Source: Buy Agolmelatine Here code insights

Agolmelatine is a very interesting sleeping medication that not only works to agonize the Melatonin receptors which helps with sleep, but it also via its blocking of the 5-HT2C serotonin receptor is able to increase dopamine transmission in the pre frontal cortex.

This is a very interesting and unique way to help increase dopamine transmission in a cleaner way which can be very valuable during this period of correcting the dopamine system.

Natural Supplements to Support Dopamine Transmission

One of my absolute favorite ways to increase Dopamine Transmission is through L-Tyrosine. Of course it is a building block in dopamine so it is very important. My favorite way to do this is through an injectable L-Tyrosine.

Which can be found here with code: biohack

I like 1ml of this per day to start my day during my dopamine protocol. Make sure to pin it IM and not SUBQ. This product was formula known as “The Motivator” from Modern Aminos. Same product they just renamed it.

I also like to take cholinergenics to improve my dopamine system. Things like Huperzine A at 400mcg per day is perfect to help increase my dopamine production.

I also like to take 8 capsules of the chemix nootropic during this time as well which I find to be very well formulated nootropic formula to help support neurotransmitters and well being (especially dopamine).
